Action-packed highlights from 28 stages

Lombard RAC Rally 1984

By the last round of the 1985 World Championship Rally season most enthusiasts were awaiting the RAC even more eagerly than usual.
Following victories at the 1000 Lakes and San Remo rounds it remained to be seen if Ari Vatanen's fabulous four-wheel drive Peugeot 205 Turbo 16 could keep the mighty Quattros of Mikkola and Mouton at bay over the wet and slippery British terrain.
Well, as you can see in this programme, it was a close run thing. Only 4 seconds separated Vatanen from second placed Mikkola after 5 days of spectacular and eventful rallysport. Videovision were running flat-out too during the 5 days, and managed to film no less than 28 stages. Their results make for a comprehensive and incident-packed 60 minutes.
Look out especially for Tony Pond after his big prang in the Rover, interviews with all the top drivers, superb in-car coverage from inside Roger Clark's Porsche (including a spin-off with camera running!), Mouton exploding the 450 bhp Quattro out of the forest corners, a look inside the Peugeot workshops at dawn and, of course, Ari in magnificent form.
