Synopsis

From the famous American labor song 'Joe Hill' (sung by Joan Baez). writer-director Bo Widerberg weaves a dramatic saga of the labor struggles in America during the early part of the present century. Joe Hill arrives from Sweden in 1910, soon to have his immigrant's high hopes shattered by the harsh realities and exploitation which were the laborer’s lot. Taking to the road. Joe turns his songwriting skill and social concern into a powerful organising force for the emerging IWW (Wobbly) labor organisation . . . because of this is framed and railroaded to his death by the Establishment.
